The Maverick Race trail running season kicked off last weekend in the stunning surroundings of the New Forest National Park. We headed over to lend our support and have a quick run around the course.
Maverick Race is all about celebrating the beauty of the British countryside, their events take you to some of the most iconic locations the UK has to offer, and this race was no exception. Set in the picturesque Dorset countryside, runners were promised the chance to spot deer, ponies, cattle and even birds of prey along the route, and we were not left disappointed. We’ll admit that we may have stopped a few times to hang out with some friendly New Forest ponies!
One of the great things about Maverick Races is that they’re accessible to runners of all levels - with multiple route lengths to choose from in every location. The opening trail event of the season consisted of three brand new routes for 2019: a short (6km), medium (17km) and long (24km) course.
Everyone was very up for getting on out there and shaking off the cobwebs after the Christmas and New Year break, including many runner’s dogs! This race was a dog-friendly event, with some competitors running the course with their pets racing alongside them.
The dogs won medals for competing too, obviously.
The new Maverick Race custom dryrobes were out in force at the event and looked sharp. They’re ideal for keeping your core temperature up pre-race and keeping you warm afterwards while you make new friends and have a beer.
This was the first event of the partnership between dryrobe and Maverick Race, we can’t wait to head out on more races throughout the year. See you on the trails!
