We are stoked to announce that dryrobe® will be the headline sponsor of this year’s English Adaptive Surfing Open! This inspirational event will return to The Wave in Bristol for the second year in a row, having hosted a hugely successful 2020 edition.
The 2021 dryrobe® English Adaptive Surfing Open takes place on Thursday 8th July and will welcome some of the world’s best adaptive surfers to compete.
As well as the English Adaptive Surfing Open, which will take place on the Wave’s Advanced Setting, the 2021 event will introduce a new Waikiki Participation Session. The session will invite adaptive surfers who are above beginner level, but may not yet be confident enough to compete to take part in the event and become familiar with the workings of surf competitions.
There’s still time to get involved, entries are open till the 28th June. Head over to the Surfing England website to find out how you can join in the action.
dryrobe® ambassador Pegleg Bennett, who will be competing and coaching at the 2021 English competition, commented:
"I'm stoked to be back at The Wave for a second year for the annual Surfing England Adaptive Open. It's an amazing venue and perfect set up for an adaptive contest. For me, it's gonna be a double whammy this year as I've entered two divisions and as one of the Surfing England coaches I get to assist some of the other divisions. This year we also have a participation session where anyone above beginner level that may want to take their surfing to the next level and possibly start competing can come along and give it a go, meet the competitors and coaches and see what it's all about. It's going to be a full-on busy day, but loads of fun and I can't wait.”
dryrobe® founder Gideon Bright, added:
“We’re proud to extend our partnerships with Surfing England by becoming the headline sponsor of this year’s English Adaptive Surfing Open. It’s a fantastic event that brings together adaptive surfers from all over the world and we’re stoked to be able to support them. We’re passionate about making surfing and indeed all watersports accessible to all, and that passion is very much shared by those involved in staging this inspirational competition.”
Last year’s event was the world’s first-ever adaptive surf competition to be run on Wavegarden Cove technology. The Wave in Bristol proved to be the perfect location for the event, not only were there guaranteed waves throughout the competition but the venue itself was designed to be 100% accessible. Competitors still had to surf in some pretty tough conditions though, as Storm Alex was tearing its way across the country. Check out our report from the event.
We’ll be at The Wave covering the event across our social media channels on Thursday, July 8th, be sure to follow us for regular updates. We can’t wait for the action to start!
