Ordnance Survey National #GetOutsideDay is back!

3 minute read

On Sunday 25 September, National #GetOutsideDay is back for its 5th year, and we’d love everyone to join us in a celebration of the great outdoors!

Founded by Ordnance Survey, National #GetOutsideDay is a chance for us all to celebrate the great outdoors. We want to help more people to get outside more often so that they live longer, stay younger and enjoy life more. The rising cost of living means that people are looking for more cost-effective ways to enjoy the outdoors, so that’s why the theme for this year is explore from your front door. So, wherever or whatever your front door is, join in, get outside and have some fun!

It’s the perfect time to make the most of the last of the summer rays before autumn truly arrives, so start planning today. Rally up your friends for a fun afternoon paddleboarding or refresh with walk by the water – the outdoors can be enjoyed by all. Why not explore somewhere new in your local area or share your love of nature by taking someone out for the day? You don’t have to be outside for the whole day either – a ten minute brisk walk, a five minute dip in the sea or an hour of fresh air can massively improve our physical and mental wellbeing.

Drink your morning coffee on the beach or snuggle up around a fire pit in your garden. It doesn’t matter where you go, what you do or who you’re with – everyone can get outside from their front door! Go one step further and do something good outside, whether it’s joining a local beach clean or leaving your car at home. Here are five cheap and cheerful ideas to get outside:

  • Jog around the block
  • Sink your toes in the sand
  • Take your morning coffee for a walk
  • Summit your nearest hill
  • Try a new dog walking route

Before you get outside, make sure your phone is fully charged and you tell someone where you are going and what time you are likely to be back. Check the weather beforehand and make sure you pack enough layers to stay warm and dry.

We look forward to seeing you outside on Sunday 25 September 2022!
