International Women’s Day - Each For Equal

4 minute(s) de lecture

Each year International Women's Day celebrates and supports the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world, as well as calling for the acceleration of gender parity in all aspects of life.

This year the campaign theme is #EachForEqual, an equal world is an enabled world. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender-equal world by actively choosing to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions and celebrate women's achievements.

To celebrate International Women’s Day we asked dryrobe ambassadors Sophie Hellyer, Cal major, Keri-anne Payne and Lucy Campbell to strike the #EachForEqual pose, share the achievement they’re most proud of, and offer their advice for other women looking to achieve their goals.

My TEDx talk!

What advice would you give to other women to achieve their goals?
Remember why you’re doing it. If it’s something you’re passionate about, then even when you're exhausted or unfocused or scared, your passion will reignite your motivation to achieve your goal.

What achievement are you most proud of?
My proudest achievement... can I have two? They would have to be graduating from Vet School, and paddling the length of the UK.

What advice would you give to other women to achieve their goals?
We’re too quick to believe what we tell ourselves, and others subliminally tell us, about what we are and aren’t able to achieve. I believe so strongly that we’re capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for. I’ve learnt my biggest lessons in my own strength and resilience being in nature, specifically in or on the ocean. Mother Nature takes no prisoners, she will humble you, but she also doesn’t judge or discriminate, so regardless of whether you’re a woman or not, she will help you discover your innate strength that you perhaps didn’t even know was there.

What achievement are you most proud of?

The thing I’m most proud of in a career sense is walking out to the London 2012 open water swim to 30,000 people cheering! Four years previous no one knew what open water swimming was, so to have had a part in the uprising of open water swimming as we know it today is a special feeling!

In terms of my life becoming a mum and growing a human being is such a massive achievement and I’m loving it!

What advice would you give to other women to achieve their goals?

Spend some actual time thinking about your ‘win’ - what does it mean to you? How would it feel to achieve it? What needs to be in place before that can happen?  Then you work backwards from that to today rather than trying to work from today to the future - working backwards is so much more successful at achieving goals. Good luck!

What achievement are you most proud of?
There have been competition results I have been over the moon with, however I think the thing that makes me happiest is just to be able to do what I love and surf full time.

What advice would you give to other women to achieve their goals?
Go for it. Learn as much as you can, set little goals or a plan to help you get there. Put a little time aside each day, dedicated towards your goal. You’ll probably have wobbles along the way and may not achieve it at the first attempt but learn from your mistakes, put them to work, keep a positive outlook and keep trying.
